Academic Says China Fully Backs Kim Jong-un as Leader
A professor from Renmin University of China says Beijing strongly backs North Korea's new leader Kim Jong-un on political, diplomatic, as well as economic levels.
Speaking at a forum in Seoul today, the University's International Studies professor Cheng Xiaohe said Beijing's priority right now in its North Korea policy is to see a smooth power transition in Pyeongyang.
Referring to the isolated regime's diplomatic limitations, Cheng said the North has no other choice but to sustain amicable relations with China.
The scholar then assessed that the Beijing-Pyeongyang relationship has progressed in all aspects due to exchanges between the two countries' leaders and a rapid growth of bilateral economic cooperation.
