South Korea's top nuclear negotiator Lim Sung-nam , who is joining President Lee on his visit to China, is expected to hold talks with his Chinese counterpart Wu Dawei in Beijing.
The meeting comes less than a week after U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia, Kurt Campbell, toured the region, and amid reports that North Korea has requested additional food aid from the U.S.
Washington has agreed that the North can receive U.S. food aid if it gives up its nuclear ambitions.
North Korea quit the six-party nuclear talks aimed at denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula in 2009.
