4th High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness Officially Opens in Busan
Shared growth and cooperation between aid donors and recipient countries is what will ultimately lead to a sustainable development around the world.
That is according to Korean President Lee Myung-bak who welcomed the official opening of the Fourth High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Korea's southeastern port city of Busan on Wednesday.

[Interview : President Lee Myung-bak] "I believe that it is crucial for governments and citizens to have full ownership of their development and share the vision for advancement in order for international development aid to bring out effective results. The international community should support partner countries strengthen capacities to formulate their own goals and plans, fit for their environment and development priorities."

Proposing to share his country's development experiences with developing nations, President Lee vowed to double Korea's Official Development Assitance over the next four years as previously pledged.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, also at the event, called on the developed world to continue their assistance in times of global economic crisis.
He said development aid would be a wise investment towards co-prosperity and stability, as well as a driving force for market expansion and job creation.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, joined a number of world leaders at a special session on gender equality and women's empowerment, after which they adopted an action plan to cooperate in strengthening women's economic and social participation to enhance development.

[Interview : Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State] "The vast majority as much as 60 to 70 percent of the people in the fields at small agricultural holdings who are doing the work of planting of livestock, tending of harvesting, of marketing are women."
