After a nearly four-year-long campaign to become one of the New7Wonders of Nature Jeju Island celebrated its successful win after Saturday's early-morning announcement.
Now eyes are on the next steps for Korea's southernmost resort island.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism says it will boost the island's infrastructure to accommodate a continued rise in foreign tourists which the Jeju Development Institute estimates will jump by 70 percent.
In addition other governmental institutions including the Korea National Tourism Organization will launch promotional campaigns to increase overseas awareness of the island.
Moreover Jeju's new status will be cross-promoted with international events in Korea including the Yeosu Expo F1 and World Conservation Congress.
