New Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon has put forward measures designed to lower tuition fees for students attending the University of Seoul.
The policies, announced by Park at a press conference today, would pump an additional 18.2 billion won, or roughly 16 million US dollars into the city-run university to help lower tuition costs.
Park called it an investment for the future, and added that the policy could be something that other cities and provinces might emulate.
Should the policy be approved by the city council, beginning next year University of Seoul students will only need to pay about 1.2 million won of tuition per semester.
