Former Top US Nuclear Envoy to North Korea Prefers 6-Party Talks
Former chief U.S. negotiator to North Korea Christopher Hill said Wednesday that he's not 'optimistic' about direct talks between the U.S. and North Korea in Geneva earlier this week.
Hill who was Washington's top negotiator with Pyeongyang and currently a dean at the University of Denver spoke to reporters after a congressional hearing in DC on the Seoul-Washington alliance and North Korea.
Though he believes the 6-party talks are the chief forum to denuclearize North Korea he said resuming the multi-lateral dialogue has become 'very difficult' because of the North's resumption of their nuclear program.
Hill is credited with brokering the September 19, 2005 Joint Statement and negotiating the shutdown of the North's Yongbyon nuclear facility.
