Germany Seeks Global Lead in Low Carbon Mobility Updated: 2011-05-16 00:00:00 KST

Germany, one of the world's leading producer of internal combustion engine equipped vehicles, plans to grab the global lead in low-carbon mobility.
The country says it will increase its electric vehicle production from two-thousand units this year to one-million units by 2020, and six-million units by 2030.
The Handelsblatt newspaper says German Chancellor, Angela Merkel has called on Germany to become a "leader in electro-mobility, both as a market and as well as a provider.”
The German government is planning to inject 1 billion euros, or more than 1.4 billion US dollars, in research funding over the next two years, to help industry players meet Berlin's goals.
