'N. Korea Set Rice Aid as Precondition to Inter-Korean Summit'
North Korea has reportedly requested aid from South Korea in the form of rice as a precondition to holding a summit between the two sides.
Citing various sources close to Pyeongyang, Yonhap News Agency says the North asked for rice during recent contact with Seoul on possibly restarting dialogue.
The South, meanwhile, leaving the door open to talks, has urged its northern counterpart to first display sincerity toward giving up nuclear ambition, and to stop its military provocations that have threatened peace and security in the region.
One source has even said that Seoul would rather not hold the summit during President Lee Myung-bak's term, if the North is not willing to come to the table with a genuine attitude.
