S. Korean News Broadcaster Says N. Korean Military Protested Amid Food Crisis Updated: 2011-02-11 00:00:00 KST

A South Korean news broadcaster has reported that part of the North Korean military is believed to have gone on strike last month to protest against having to work day and night amid a severe food shortage.
Citing military intelligence officials from Seoul on Friday news channel YTN said the recent protest was mostly led by officers but added that it is still unclear whether there were any physical clashes as authorities tried to control the revolt.
The sources also said high-level officers of the military unit are known to have been punished for the disturbance.
And in the wake of the food crisis Pyeongyang has reportedly ordered its embassies abroad to request food aid from their respective host countries.
