Russian PM Ratifies Japan Civilian Nuclear Deal
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signed off on an agreement with Japan on the peaceful use of atomic energy.
The Kremlin said on Saturday that Medvedev ratified the deal, which would allow the transfer of Japanese technology to Russia and the sale of Russian uranium to Japan, which lacks energy resources.
It would also allow Russia and Japan to jointly explore and develop uranium deposits, as well as build and operate light water reactors.
A framework agreement was first signed back in 2009, and was ratified by both houses of the Russian parliament in late December.
