Russia Condemns N. Korea's Provocations Updated: 2010-12-16 00:00:00 KST

Russia has once again denounced North Korea for its uranium enrichment activities and the shelling of South Korea's Yeonpyeong Island last month.
Seoul's nuclear envoy Wi Sung-lac, who met with his Russian counterpart Alexei Borodavkin in Moscow on Wednesday, said Russia was firm in its view that North Korea violated existing UN resolutions and a 2005 multilateral agreement to dismantle its nuclear program by enriching uranium.
While adding that North Korea deserves to be reprimanded for its Yeonpyeong assault, Moscow emphasized that efforts should be made to diffuse tensions in the region through dialogue.
On the latter point Wi reportedly said the priority now is to send a resolute and stern message to Pyeongyang to end its provocations, and that a possible resumption of dialogue could be considered after observing North Korea's moves.
