The upcoming marine exercises by South Korean and US forces could now take place in the East Sea instead of the West Sea, as originally planned.
A government source was quoted as saying on Sunday that it is yet to be decided where the naval drills will take place while adding that the joint anti-submarine exercises can be held anywhere since the country is a peninsula surrounded by water on all three sides.
This comes amid efforts by the US and China to smooth tensions over the proposed naval exercises in the West Sea which were planned to deter North Korean provocation following the sinking of the South Korean warship, the Cheonan.
Meanwhile, China has strongly opposed the planned drills saying that its location was too close to its waters.
