Lower Speed Limit to be Applied for Cars Passing Through Highway Tolls
The National Police Agency plans to set a new 30 kilometer per hour speed limit for vehicles passing through electronic toll collection systems called "Hi-pass" on the nation's highways.
Officials at the agency say they decided to lower the speed limit from 50 kilometers per hour after a tourist bus fell off an elevated roadway near Incheon Bridge right after passing through a highway toll killing 13 people last Saturday.
Under the new traffic regulation, drivers will have to abide by the speed limit 50 meters ahead of the toll.
The agency is expected to complete setting up new road signs and repairing roads on highways nationwide by next month.
