S. Korea to Send Letter to UN Security Council This Week Updated: 2010-05-30 00:00:00 KST

The South Korean government is reportedly considering sending a letter to the UN Security Council sometime this week asking the global body to take up the case of North Korea sinking a South Korean warship in March.
A high-level government official speaking on condition of anonymity said a letter will most likely be sent to the chairman of the UN Council this week since Seoul could lose momentum on the issue if it is brought forth at a later date.
Although the exact timing of the referral will be decided after further consultations with related countries the official said the letter will stress that the sinking is a grave international security issue that merits Council action.
