North Korea said Wednesday it will not produce more nuclear weapons than it needs and will not participate in a nuclear arms race.
The communist country's Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying it will also join international efforts to reduce nuclear arms.
North Korea has boycotted international nuclear disarmament talks for over a year and set conditions on its return that include ending UN sanctions imposed after its last nuclear test in May 2009.
Financial as well as trade sanctions have dealt serious blows to the communist country's already decrepit economy.
