N. Korea to Establish 8 Economic Zones Updated: 2010-03-03 00:00:00 KST

Reports indicate North Korea may designate Pyeongyang and several other cities as special economic zones to attract foreign capital.
The Japanese economic daily Nihon Keizai Shimbun reports that the impoverished country has selected its capital and seven other places including Sinuiju and Cheongjin as potential zones which will offer tax incentives to foreign investors.
However, the Japanese daily was skeptical as to whether foreign businesses would be willing to invest in the reclusive country, which is already hurting from UN sanctions and caught in the middle of global efforts to halt its nuclear weapons program.
