Korea is experiencing a significant cold snap this weekend. With wind chill temperatures have fallen well below the freezing point to close to minus 20 degrees Celsius in the capital Seoul while over 60 schools suspended classes on Saturday in South Jeolla Province.
The biting cold weather that began Friday has also frozen 75 water pipelines in Seoul according to the city's water service authority. And over in South Jeolla Province major cities had heavy snowfall reaching 29 centimeters in some areas.
Cold wave advisories were issued Saturday for Seoul and the provinces of Gyeonggi, Gangwon, and South Chungcheong. A heavy snowfall advisory was also issued for Jeju Island and a couple of islands off the coast of South Jeolla Province. The Korea Meteorological Administration is forecasting temperatures to reach above the freezing point across the nation on Sunday.
