A 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the northeastern coast of Indonesia early Thursday, destroying more than 5-hundred buildings and injuring at least 42 people.
Local media reported that at around 1:35 a.m., Indonesia time, the deadly quake struck the Talaud region off the country's northeastern coast, more than 2-thousand kilometers from the capital Jakarta. Local authorities lifted the tsunami warning an hour after the initial quake and the US Geological Survey says 19 aftershocks recording 5.0 or more on the Richter scale soon followed.
3-thousand people are believed to have evacuated the area and the exact number of casualties is still unknown.
