World Sports for Wednesday, October 7

Hello everyone and welcome to World Sports, I'm Chang June.
We're almost through the middle of the work week and the action is building up as soccer teams around the globe are gearing up for this weekend's 2010 World Cup qualifers.
Let's start off in Bolivia where there have been a change in events.

You may recall that Bolivia's national football team went on strike last month stating that it would boycott its World Cup qualifiers against Brazil and Peru.
The players' union was demanding some major changes to the structure of Bolivia's game as they wanted to see it run by one unified body rather than the current three separate ones.
Well, that strike has now been lifted as Team Bolivia went to go practice for its upcoming match against Brazil on October 11th.

And in more soccer news this weekend is going to be action-packed as the finalists for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.. will be decided.
Ahead of its match against Colombia the Chilean team now in third place in the South American group with one win away from qualifying trained with a "do-or-die" mentality as its victory on Saturday would allow them to join Brazil and Paraguay in the finals.
Meanwhile turning to what's going down in Europe Germany is prepping for its game against Russia on Saturday, October 10th.
Germany is currently ahead of Russia by a point and is set for South Africa with this weekend's win.
And the Swedes had a training session to work out any kinks before its face-off against Denmark for their Saturday game as well.
The Swedish team right now is in second place and really needs to win this to tie with Denmark as the Danes are at the top of their group with 18 points, which makes it a three point difference.
I'm thinking that fans in Sweden are all crossing their fingers that Denmark will burn out a bit so that they drop in the rankings as the Danes will go head-to-the main head with Hungary on the same day.

Talking about finalists let's see who won in tennis over at the China Open in Beijing on Tuesday!
People held their breath as they watched to see if Serena Williams would be able to make a comeback as the world's top female tennis star.
And breathe they did as Williams was able to recover her title with her victory over Ekaterina Makarova with her 6-3 6-2 wins.
With Williams beaming as she returned to her throne for the fourth time Russian princess Dinara Safina's 25-week reign is now over.

And before we head over to the weather we already know it's getting cold out there so let's take a look at some hockey.
Hockey's already kicked off but I've got to say I hope there's a player out there whose luck will change rather than reflect his first game.
It isn't pretty when you're a sought-after free agent goalie named the "Monster" because of your size and it's your first career NHL starting game.
I'm talking about 24-year-old Toronto Maple Leafs Jonas Gustavsson who couldn't help save his team from its neighboring Ottawa Senators from their 2-1 loss.

Hey.. let's give him props for his 26 saves for the night though.
Don't worry it's only your first game and things will get better!
That's all for this edition of World Sports.
I'll see you tomorrow night.
Good night everyone.
