Thank you Chakhee and welcome to World Sports, I'm Kim Young and let's jump in to the world of sports Plenty to cover and very little time, so let's get to it The biggest news from around town seems to be the World Baseball Classic and there was an exciting match that ran all the way down to the wire, so let's take it to the Tokyodome in Japan
An epic match was played today in the Tokydome, South Korea eager to get the advantageous pool position and looking for a bit of revenge from their fourteen to two mercy loss to Japan on Saturday did in fact get a bit of vengence with a win in front of Japan's home crowd with a score of one-nothing The win was not a walk in the park though because the game came down to the wire, remaining scoreless until Kim Tae Kyun singled on a ground ball to Norichika Aoki bringing Lee Jong Wook home for the score The rest of the match was a test of wits between pitcher and batter, both teams not giving any room for error right down to the final inning South Korea and Japan both make it into pool 1 but South Korea is going to the USA as the pool A winner Both teams will get a few days to rest as the pool 1 matches resume Sunday
South Korea's Yang Yong-Eun claimed his very first USPGA Tour win at Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and even booked himself a ticket to the Masters Yang sealed his victory over John Rollins by two-putting from fifty feet for par at the par-five eighteen Yang, a relatively unknown golfer in the PGA compared to the likes of Anthony Kim and KJ Choi, said this win definately is the biggest win of his career, even bigger than the HSBC Champions where he triumphed over Tiger Woods by two strokes His win at the Honda Classic earns him a trip to the Masters, a spot at next week's World Golf Championships CA Championship at Doral and a two year exemption on the US tour and also a prize purse of about one million dollars Not only that, Yang also joins KJ Choi as the only Koreans to win on the US men's tour, opening a window on new opportunities for the golfer
South Korea once again dominated the Short Track Speedskating World Championships in Vienna Lee Ho-Suk of South Korea won the one thousand meter title in one minute, thirty three point zero six zero seconds defeating Apolo Anton Ohno of the United States Lee also won the gold in the fifteen hundred meters on the first day of the event and took the silver on the three thousand meter superfinal, coming in just behind J.R. Celski of the United States Kwak Yun-Ki of Yonsei University won two silvers and twenty four year old female speedskating sensation, Kim Min-Jung won the silver in the one thousand meter as well as the three thousand meter superfinal With her gold medal in the fifteen hundred, she came in second place in overall standings
And that just about concludes it for today, I'll see you tomorrow with more and stay tuned for the weather with Jisu MAR 09, 2009
