President Lee Myung-bak has reaffirmed his commitment towards promoting bicycle use as part of his green growth initiative.
On his visit to Changwon in South Gyeongsang Province, which was the last stop for Korea's first bicycle festival, President Lee said he plans to build a network of bicycle paths that are connected throughout the entire country by 2020.
He also said he aims to make Korea's bicycle industry the third largest in the world within the next five years by utilizing the nation's information technology and bike-parts industries.
His comments follow a plan announced by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy to encourage production of high-end bicycles with navigational devices and small engines.
