The number of visitors to Dokdo has grown by over 20 percent during the first nine months of this year compared to the same period in 2007.
The North Gyeongsang Province government says the number of visitors to Korea's easternmost islets as of the end of September reached nearly 100-thousand people.
Since March, 2005 the local government has lifted the daily limit of 70 visitors to the islets and as a result the number reached a record high of close to 1,900 people per day last year.
Authorities say the rising interest in Dokdo after Japan again claimed territorial rights over the islets this past summer has also been a contributing factor.
