The Korean film industry has made big strides in recent years with film directors and actors earning international recognition for their work.
To encourage more young people to nurture their creative talents in the field, there's a special film festival, and our Sok Jongwook was there.
The 2nd University Film Festival raised its curtain at a theater in downtown Seoul to showcase the talent and imagination of college students.
Attending the opening ceremony were movie industry veterans chosen as the best in their field by college students around the country.
Director-of-the-year Bong Junho , famed for his blockbuster "The Host", and actor Jo Seungwoo who starred in gambling flick "The War of Flower" won over students' hearts.
The festival is divided in two sections, domestic and international.
Domestic works are subdivided into those by film majors and others by non-majors.
The international section will show both amateur and professional works.
Films from schools in Japan and Poland will be screened along with a special showing of works from the Cannes Film Festival.
RECORDED: "Many professors believed that students of film needed a forum to showcase their works so we decided to hold a festival."
Over the festival's four-day run some 30 domestic and 30 international movies from 15 countries are being screened at two venues: the Korea Film Directors' Society and the Seoul Animation Center.
"With Korean movies enjoying popularity and attention throughout Asia the 2nd University Film Festival is giving a chance for aspiring directors, actors and actresses to take center stage.
Sok Jongwook, Arirang News."
