IPTV To Include Internet Access

The old black and white television set has sure come a long way since its commercialization back in the late 1930s.
The television has by now been transformed into a multi-functional tool that encompasses all sorts of applications.
For instance take a look at the latest developments in Internet protocal television or IPTV.
It allows viewers to surf the net and read the morning paper online while watching their favorite movie or show.
And trips to the bank may soon be a thing of the past with the introduction of TV banking.
With TV banking people will be able to pay their bills, purchase and sell shares, and also check minute-to-minute changes in worldwide stock markets all with the help of a handy remote control.
And for those game lovers IPTV now supports online gaming which means people can interact with each other in real time over the television screen.
Currently three major telecommunication companies LG Dacom, SK Broadband and Korea Telecom have IPTV systems up and running but they are limited to sending shows and movies over the Internet and do not include Web search capabilities.
All three companies are expected to begin expanded systems with Web functions by the end of this year.
According to representatives from KT they are still in negotiations with local TV broadcasters for the rights to media content but if all goes well subscribers to IPTV will be able to view even more channels than on cable TV.
The world of advertising is also expected to drastically transform with this two-way system.

[Interview : Kim Yoonho, Head of IPTV Business
SK Broadband] "With this updated version of IPTV, viewers will be able to search online for the items they see on TV commercials as they're watching the advertisement."

Market analysts forecast that IPTV is estimated to attract approximately three million subscribers by the end of this year.
