Samsung Makes 1 in 4 Cell Phones Used in Western Europe

Samsung Electronics is cruising its way up the Western European cell phone market continuing to put pressure on the region's number one seller Nokia.

According to the latest report by G-f-K a research institute based in Germany Samsung's on-year market share moved up 5.3 percentage points to 25 percent in January. Nokia took up 35 percent of the pie. Samsung also edged out Nokia to take the number one spot in the United Kingdom for that month.

Nokia's share in the UK dropped nine points while Samsung gained eight points.
The Korean company attributes its performance to a marketing strategy that encompasses culture and sports through efforts such as sponsorships in the English Premier League.
