The bribery scandal, also known as "Park Yeon-cha gate," that stirred up political turmoil over the past six months in the country has finally come to an end.
The Supreme Prosecutors' Office announced the result of its investigation on Friday, indicting 21 people on charges of accepting money from Park, chairman of shoemaker Taekwang Industry.
Those indicted include the CEO of Sejong Namo Tour, a former head of the National Police Agency as well as two former National Assembly speakers.
The prosecutors have also decided to terminate the case of a separate corruption scandal centered around late former President Roh Moo-hyun.
Whether or not to reveal the investigation details has been a controversial topic among people and the prosecutors say the case lost the right of arraignment after the ex-president's death.
The scandal first began last September with an investigation on the acquisition of Sejong Securities by the state-run National Agricultural Cooperative Federation.
Park Yeon-cha himself and Roh Gun-pyeong, the former president's elder brother were arrested in December for offering and receiving money.
In April, the investigation developed into the summoning of Roh, his wife, former first lady Kwon Yang-sook and their son Gun-ho.
The speedy probe, however, seemed to have slowed down after Roh died late last month and Prosecutor General Lim Chae-jin's resignation last week amid mounting public accusations that blamed the prosecution for its intense interrogation that they believe forced Roh to take his own life.
The result has now finally been announced but some are still criticizing the investigation as being too rushed and incomplete.
