Former Unification Minister Chung Dong-young of the Democratic Party has walked out from the party after failing to be nominated for the April parliamentary by-elections.
But he says he will still run as an independent in Jeonju his political homeground in North Jeolla Province.
Therefore, Jeonju is expected to become a battlefield between Chung and former party member, Kim Keun-sik , a specialist on North Korea at Kyungnam University.
Chung expressed disappointment about the Democratic Party saying that he offered a helping hand but the party refused him.
However, he firmly stated that his defection is only temporary and he will someday return to the party.
