Korea plans to create an international organization to tackle deforestation, yellow dust and desertification problems around the world.
Spearheaded by the Korea Forest Service the government will set up and launch an agency to coordinate Asian forest policies by next summer with the goal of promoting low carbon emissions and green growth. An official with the Presidential Office says this would raise Korea's contribution level and status in the international community on environmental conservation.
President Lee Myung-bak proposed at the World Knowledge Forum this year that a new global body on climate change and other enviromental issues be established.
