Now amid continued fears over the spread of the H1N1 virus many are starting to question the effectiveness of the widely-used Rapid Artigen Test for the infection.
The Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs said today that it's better not to trust the test results completely since it only confirms that someone has contracted the virus and not whether the infection is from the seasonal flu or H1N1.
The ministry also added that the quick test tends to carry a high false-negative rate in children the age group where the virus is spreading the fastest.
Meanwhile, the Real-Time PCR Detection Panel is the only test that can confirm exactly which flu a person has contracted but it takes more than six hours for the results to come in.
