A special dance performance by Lee Eh-joo , an artist who carries on a rare Buddhist dance tradition was held at Daehakro on Wednesday.
With a history that goes back to the Unified Shilla period Korea's most renowned dance "Sungmu" or the "Monk's Dance" is an art form that is registered as one of the country's most important intangible cultural assets.
The dance depicts the emotions of a Buddhist monk torn between the monastic and mundane worlds and is said to be one of the most challenging to perform.
Lee Eh-joo who is on the faculty of Seoul National University made her stage debut in 1974 and has since has won numerous awards.
