Former Grand National Party Chairwoman Park Geun-hye said on Wednesday during a trip to the US that she opposes a movement to make Kim Moo-sung the party's floor leader.
Although Kim is a well-known Park supporter the former chairwoman said party leaders should not promote specific lawmakers for the post because it runs counter to the GNP's principles.
On Wednesday President Lee Myung-bak and the current GNP chairman Park Hee-tae met and during their discussions on party unity mentioned Kim as a possible floor leader.
Their meeting came about as a result of the party's defeat in the April 29th by-elections.
The ruling party is divided between supporters of Park and President Lee.
