Korea has a bullet train rail system called the KTX and now Gyeonggi Province is poised to open an underground express train service in 2016 linking major metropolitan cities near Seoul.
The government of Gyeonggi Province formally announced the three railroad lines that will make up the Great Train Express or GTX.
The three GTX railway lines include a 75-kilometer route that connects Goyang City and Dongtan New City. and an express train will also shuttle passengers from Uijongbu to Gunpo .
The tansit project is expected to cost close to 14 trillion won or roughly 11 billion US dollars and when it goes into service it could reduce daily traffic of 880-thousand cars.
