Some 120-thousand Koreans have been confirmed as having been drafted by force to Japan during Japan's colonial rule of the Korean peninsula.
The Truth Commission on Forced Mobilization under the Japanese Imperialism went over a list handed in by the National Archives of Korea of people who were forced to serve in various capacities under Japan from 1910 to 1945. The list was compiled by the Korean government in 1957 to discuss diplomatic relations with Japan and contains the names of nearly 290-thousand Korean draftees during Japan's colonial rule.
Regarding the remaining 170-thousand, the commission stressed that this does not mean they were not force laborers but that it was no longer possible to prove that they were at this point.
