The North Jeolla provincial government has announced its intentions to register the recently excavated national treasures found in Iksan on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
The Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea unearthed some 500 relics during the dismantlement process of Maitreya Pagoda in Iksan, North Jeolla Province earlier last week.
Among the excavated items are a golden "sari" urn as well as silver ornaments, some of which date back to the reign of King Muwang of the Baekjae Dynasty in 7th century BC.
The province has also requested the government to promote the Maitreya Pagoda Relic Exhibition Center in Iksan to the status of a national museum.
