Groundbreaking ceremonies were held today on the sides of the Nakdong and Yeongsan rivers.
This was part of the government's initiative to revive the country's four major river areas.
Prime Minister Han Seungsoo said the development plan is not a matter of choice, but an essential project reiterating that it's a Korean version of the United States' New Deal which used public works spending to help lift the country out of the Great Depression.
The government will allocate 14 trillion won or more than 10.6 billion US dollars for the project to promote economic activity and develop the rivers as bases for green growth.
