South Korea and the United States are reportedly drawing up plans to eliminate North Korea's weapons of mass destruction by military means if diplomatic efforts do not bear fruit.
The US Pacific Command which oversees military strategy on the Korean peninsula is operating a counterproliferation working group with South Korea's military to develop the capability to eliminate North Korean WMDs including nuclear weapons. These preparations are more controversial as they are not simply for defensive purposes but have an active aim of eliminating the North's WMD capabilities. Multilateral talks on North Korea's denuclearization are currently in a stalemate.
