The world's largest oil storage reserve opened in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, Tuesday.
Built by Korea National Oil Corporation the new oil storage facility has a capacity of 50 million barrels enough fuel to cover 23 days of the nation's demand. KNOC says the completion of Korea's ninth oil bunker expands Korea's total storage volume to 140-million barrels.
It took 11 years to build the oil reserve, which consists of tunnels and huge underground tanks. The construction was initiated as part of Korea's effort to transform itself into a hub of energy storage in Northeast Asia.
