Retail sales in July posted a two-digit growth due mainly to high energy prices and hotter-than-usual summer weather.
Eyebrow-raising prices at gas stations and stronger demand for air conditioners, refrigerators and electric fans helped retail sales reach 21 trillion won, or 18 billion US dollars.
That's a 12-percent jump compared to the same period last year.
The National Statistical Office says car sales rose nearly 30 percent.
In terms of sales giant retail shopping malls outperformed their department store counterparts.
Convenience stores and Internet-based retailers also saw two-digit growth over the last 10 months.
