From now on all imported meat products will be required to label not only the country of origin but also the name of the meatpacking plant it came from.
The Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries says the stricter import standards are part of government's efforts to provide consumers with the choice to choose meat products that have come from reputable facilities known to be sanitary.
Also meat importers who fail to accurately label the country of origin will be subject to close inspection on all its products over a one-year span.
