Amid growing concerns over the rapidly decreasing population the number of newborn babies in Korea went up for the sixth straight month in August.
Statistics Korea's August figures show more than 38-thousand babies were born in August up close to 6 percent from the same month last year.
However, the death toll also saw an on-year rise of 3-and-a-half percent in the same month to reach over 20-thousand.
On the marriage front, fewer couples in the country are getting divorced with the divorce rate showing a downward trend for eight straight months while the number of marriage registrations jumped by nearly 13 percent.
