Arirang-3 Satellite Launch Successful
Korea has become one of the four countries in the world to have a "sub-meter" satellite in space and now will be able to provide high-resolution satellite images.
The Korea Aerospace Research Institute says the country's Arirang-3 multipurpose satellite has successfully entered orbit after it was launched at 1:39 a.m. today from a Japanese space center.
The "sub-meter" satellite is able to capture images of an object with a radius as small as 70 centimeters from nearly 700 kilometers above the Earth.
These images will help Korea gather geographical information on the Korean Peninsula, detect warning signs of natural disasters, and develop national security as well.
