Korean Lawmakers Fail to Agree on How to Lower College Tuition CostsUpdated: 2011-08-01 (KST)
A legislative subcommittee of the National Assembly's education committee held a meeting to evaluate a bill on lowering college tuition fees, but hardly any agreement is said to have been made.
At Monday's meeting, lawmakers from the ruling Grand National Party and opposition parties agreed to exempt those serving in the army from paying interest on their loans while serving in the military, but failed to narrow differences on how to do so.
Members of the subcommittee are scheduled to meet again next week to discuss the issue further and also to talk about ways to restructure the nation's colleges.
